I met a Tree

I met a tree , I had known forever
I met a tree, I hadn’t seen ever.
Every night I’d see the sun gleam
In and out of a rabbit hole dream.
The tree, it stood barren and bare
Seasonal lush , but very spare.

And there I saw it for the very first time
My childhood muse for sketch and rhyme.
Oft my pencil had drawn a semblance
On paper, sand or inked remnants.
Stories of love and loss it bore
And a million hopes, with kites that soar.

I met a tree,I had known forever

A Father’s Love

Have you ever had the love of a father ?
Not yours , someone elses rather!

In a world of locked doors,
And mine over yours,
Where even the rains seek revenge
And the sweet roses avenge
He spotted us in love,
And that was reason above.
‘Salt and sand , gloom and shine,
Hold him tight and he’ll be fine’.
And then he slipped into that haze
Till it seemed a blurry blaze.

I loved you like my own
And with every day it has only grown

Sweet sixteen and full of dreams,
Yonder the valleys and gurgling streams
Mountains ,pastures and frothy seas
She flew in line with the geese.
As the day grew ,the farther she flew;
Till she was, but, a speck in the blue
She ceased at last ,the geese did too;
A perch she’d found, in the land so new.

The land of plenty …or so was it called
But ‘plenty’ never quite left her appalled;
Perched so high ,she was scared she’d fall;
Thought “How safe I’d be ,if only I could crawl”.
Here was a life she’d waited for so long
But now it wasn’t the same merry song,
She’d seen the geese fly and had come along
In hope of better, but how she’d been wrong.

Each day she’d wake to a routine test
Trying her best, to be like the rest
But they were geese and all alike;
Who knew no better than to fly in a line!
Cold and starved, she ached for that nest,
That velvety down of her mother’s breast
The warmth of those who knew her best;
And the fights she’d had..all in jest.

T’was summer, still no scent of plum?
Alas! too far from home she’d come
Home would never see her again,
Life’s just …..a cruel sweet game.
Hurt and fallen, she made up her mind
I am to soar,.. not fly in a line;
A nest I’ll make in a newer land
Into a newer sky ,..my wings shall span.

Of Loss and Love

Dew drops kissed the rose petals
Cool breeze made the leaves rustle
Mist was in the air
Flowers bloomed everywhere

I sat looking, my heart aching
With tears in my eye ,praying
A surrounding fit to make merry
But my heart burning with agony.

My grandpa’s armchair
Now empty and bare
The warmth of his speech
Alas!he’s now out of my reach.

Without him, I am a homeless gypsy
A vessel floating aimlessly in the sea
The ray of light ,guiding me ,
Now decides to forsake me.

A day ago, he lay in bed
Waiting patiently for death.
Now his soul shall rest in peace,
But what will come of me?

I stand …shattered forever
A loss I never can recover.
Oh Grandpa! Come back!
Come back! You belong to me!

Oh Almighty! I pray
Send him to me.

A Nameless Dedication

There is another face to me ,you know,
The other face that I never show
You know my wishes upon a star
And guess my dreams from so far.
I know not how,I know not why.
You tie me down,Yet let me fly.

A Daughter , A Dew Drop and the Dive..

In a sprightly dawn so new n chill
A tender drop barely bore the thrill
A wanton wind she prayed would sway
Unwittingly ,unsullied she’d slip away
Into a perilous flight , a candid dive.

A daughter n a dew drop start a day in life,
The start of an end? The end of a start?

Secret Love

In the air hung a waft of mangoes pickled
The midsummer breeze , her tresses tickled
Her smile wreaked of innocent mischief
With him, she’d had a naughty tiff.
He wasn’t any night in shining armor
Not the one of whom dreams you’d harbor
Yet the impish grin, her heart did steal
With wit, charm and an honest zeal.
He stole a glance , her heart did race
He touched her ankle, she withdrew in grace
Furtive glances .ah! silent vows did follow
Secret lovers, of whom the world didn’t know.

Rains set in and with it came clouds
Her friends wouldn’t have it,when she said it aloud
They hush hushed and frowned
Belittled their love in statements profound
Through hail n snow n storm stuck they
Living with the hope of a newer day
They were so wrong for one another
Why then were they together?
Ah! They were in love..
And wasn’t that reason above?
